Back in 2019 the Maine legislature passed a statute requiring private insurers to cover the cost of hearing aids.
The law took effect on New Year’s Day, 2020. Private health insurance companies and the state’s Medicaid program are required to cover the cost of hearing aids up to $3,000 per ear every three years. This can benefit the estimated 173,000 Mainers who have hearing impairment.
