Tim Porta will be missed by so many. He was a “hotel kid” and followed in his parents’ footsteps with a wonderful life of hosting travelers and tourists all over. His vibrant and welcoming spirit was a perfect fit.
Unfortunately, his hearing was not a perfect fit. He struggled with severe hearing loss in his adult life. He adapted with hearing aids as best he could. It was not easy .
For Tim, it was not just about him. He generously supported public hearing technology efforts – especially at the Portland Stage Theater. He gave where he saw need.
Please remember Tim Porta and his good works by making a generous donation to the HLAA Maine DownEast chapter. Tim loved the state of Maine, its people, and he knew about hearing loss.

Holidays means large and noisy gatherings. Yup, hard to hear environments. It can be isolating and overwhelming. Let’s meet soon. We will share strategies, and I bet we will share a few laughs about surviving the holidays and having fun along the way.
And believe me … You are not alone. We are all challenged by large gatherings.

HLAA New England convention; in-person Saturday March 29, 2025; Marlborough, MA.
Several chapters of HLAA in New England (Eastern CT, Downeast = Maine, MA – Boston, NH, etc.) are gathering to get to know one another and discuss ways to better serve folks dealing with hearing loss in our areas. The main events are on Sat but there will be options to stay Friday or Sunday for informal fun. Join us!
Plans include 4 presentations, captioning, hearing loops, several buffets (food!), hearing accessible guest rooms at the hotel, free parking, etc. Likely begins at 9:00 AM. Details forthcoming.
