She is the first Deaf black woman to earn a PHD in a STEM field, focusing on biological communication. She advocates for deaf and HOH folks because communication is critical for every living being.
The mission of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) Downeast Chapter is to educate Mainers with hearing loss (as well as their families and friends) about the causes, nature, and complications of hearing loss and what can be done to better cope with that loss.
