A new HLAA Downeast Zoom meeting
to help us live better with our hearing loss!

Thursday, June 20th at 7:00 pm.

Did you get excited when Maine passed a law that certain insurance plans are required to provide that coverage?

Does it apply to you?

Back in 2019 the Maine legislature passed a statute requiring some private insurers to cover the cost of hearing aids.
But what plans?
What insurances out there work for hearing aids? Cochlear implants?

Learn from a panel of experts that include:

Pamela Stutch –  Attorney, Consumer Health Care Division, Maine Bureau of Insurance

Terry Morrell – Director of Division for the Deaf Hard of Hearing and Late Deafened.  He also oversees the hearing aid program at vocational rehabilitation.

Ann Shea – From EAAA,  Ann will discuss the costs of hearing aids and how hearing aids and cochlear implants are covered by Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage.

Mike Pasquini – Originally from Montreal and today lives in Maine. He is a Licensed health and Life insurance agent. He prides himself in treating all clients as if they are member of his family and offers everyone post enrollment support by way of customer service and healthcare advocacy.

And let’s learn from each other:

Margaret and Pat – HLAA DownEast – That’s us!  We will reflect on our experiences with insurance companies, medicare, medi-gap, medicare advantage, and MaineCare.
Everyone is invited to join in on the discussion!

In person gathering – Lewiston Maine – Maine MILL (Maine Museum of Innovation, Learning and Labor) Tour and Lunch Out!

Save the date!  Saturday, July 20th in Lewiston, Maine.  At Noon we will meet at the Maine MILL,  35 Canal St, Lewiston, and we will be treated to a private, personalized tour of the Mill Museum of Innovation, Learning and Labor.  The museum has a unique collection of over 10,000 artifacts, hundreds of recorded oral histories, and engaging exhibits. Explore how life, labor, and culture from our past can shape our present and influence our future.

In addition we will be experimenting with a set of hearing assistive devices!  Technology that can help museum docents present their exhibits and technology that can help us hear presentations clearly.  We will experiment and discuss our museum experience in addition to enjoying the Mill Museum’s rich, historic collection.

We will enjoy lunch out afterwards at DaVinci’s Eatery, a four minute walk from the museum.  Together we will enjoy breaking bread and share our stories of hearing loss.  From the DaVinci website:  Our passion is serving only the best – all dishes are made with care and from scratch. Whether you’re craving Italian comfort food like Baked Manicotti, or something a little more adventurous, such as Veal Saltimbocca, we offer something for everyone.
