Our HLAA DownEast Chapter had its first annual ‘in person’ gathering at Riverfront Barbecue & Grille in Augusta and it was a wonderful luncheon! Ten of us made the long haul from our distant Maine towns and we were all glad we did.
Riverfront was marvelous to turn off the loud background music, the service was fantastic, the food was delicious, and we were able to re-arrange the furniture to help meet our needs as good folks with hearing loss.
Tom thanked Margaret for keeping him up-to-date in the conversations. The slight breeze from an AC noticeably reduced his microphone range for the iPhone app doing his speech-to-text. Just another example of how difficult it is for hard of hearing people to cope. Tom does a great job adapting.
Who were we? We were: Nancy, Candace, Tom, Lynn, Andy, Margaret, Sheila, Pat, Susan, and Rick.
What a friendly, happy group!
We were all smiles! Some fun, optimistic comments:
- It’s so nice to be with others who understand my difficulties!
- We are all facing each other – and we all know what it’s like not to hear…
- I used to drive to Massachusetts for a support group – now I can now stay in Maine.
- When’s the next gathering? I can’t wait!
Yes, there will be future events in person. And we will have some virtual meetings in between. Maine is a big state with a small population – rural and lovely. We need to work together to get together. We will get around!
Please email us and become part of the project to bring together Mainers with hearing loss.
